At the behest of my many fans (ha) I decided to do a brain-dump of the miscellaneous items of interest from the past few weeks. I have been expecting I will do a lengthier post soon, because there are several developing news items on my radar. A few weeks back there was a nice article in the NYT about the changing landscape of the music biz. Of course there was discussion at Slashdot, too. Apropos of the topic, you absolutely MUST WATCH this little primer on copyright by the folks at Stanford Law. Speaking of music, I ran across this today. I have a V-Cast phone, and need to try it out. I wonder how long it will remain “free” since I doubt that enough people will impulse-buy the tracks on their phones. But it’s still pretty cool that technology has forever banished the trauma of hearing a song on the radio or in a bar and not being able to find out the title & artist. Move over, Jonas Salk. As always, I’ve been keeping tabs on the ‘NewSpace’ scene. Mr. Bigelow’s next trick (pun intended) has been postponed until late-June, but I expect this will yet be a banner year for the fledgling industry. I expect Blue Origin to make some more noise soon as well. (Ha, ha … more puns.) Besides, things *have* to be looking up (pun), they found Scotty’s ashes! Speaking of Trek … I will be re-booting the monthly movie parties with a STAR TREK EXTRAVAGANZA! Like a “Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” novel, attendees will get to select their favorite OS episodes to be screened. As soon as I lock-down an available Sunday afternoon, I will post the details. Meanwhile, don’t forget to enjoy these. In part thanks to an ongoing dialogue about green technology, I have also been studying up on developments in alternative vehicle development, and enabling technologies such as battery development. If some of these guys make good on their promises, I may need to buy some ALTI stock afterall. Those of you who *really* know the inside dirt Planet-side will understand why THIS is of interest. Depending on price & contract, I just may be buying one of these when they launch. So it took ten years longer than we expected … Summer (which, we know, is a bummer, thanks to Neil) approacheth. The kids will be finishing school, and hitting the pool. The amount of lawn I must mow is decreasing, thanks to a landscaping project, so that is cause to rejoice! Oh – I almost forgot. My cousin’s book snagged a nice bit of press at the Washington Post, which is a pretty good score. Take a look and pass it along if you find it interesting. That’s all I can think of for the moment. But remember, things are tough every over!
